Our Educational Views:
1.Explain in detail your understanding of Common Core.
Common core is a set of clear college- and career-ready standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. Its purpose was intended to be a more efficient and effective way for kids to learn new information. These children in the common core now, i find, are having a very hard time keeping up with the new difficult ways of learning what we used to learn so much easier before.
2.Do you support or oppose the implementation of Common Core? Why?
I oppose the implementation of the common core because it is a more difficult way of learning that was said to be easier and more effective for teaching children.
3.Our media consistently claims there is an education crisis in the United States. What Information can you provide to refute this statement?
There is an education crisis in the United States. We now rank 25th in math, 17th in science and 14th in reading but we plan to change that by eliminating the common core and removing required regents and testing.
4.How does your administration plan to increase the nation’s high school completion rate, which is currently 74.7%?
We can teach kids in different ways that will keep them interested in their work and want them to go off to college in ways such as more hands on projects, more in class support from teachers that really care for their students and show genuine interest in teaching the kids of the future.
5.What is your stance on standardized testing? Do you believe standardized testing serves a purpose?
Standardized testing is unnecessary, in the way the U.S. uses it. We can turn and use it more like other countries in the way that we use the test to asses what is learned instead of ranking the students.Even though it serves a purpose to see how much students have learned, I find it is one of the main reasons why students bail out of high school so soon.
6.What are the positive and negative effects of standardized testing for both students and teachers?
Standardized testing has many positive effects on students and teachers because it shows how much the student have learned so far and gives teachers a chance to see what the students know before and after they have taught them. But it also has many negative effects on both of them as well, such as low testing scores.
7.What other methods can be used to assess our students and teachers?
we can assess our students by grading class work more and seeing what needs improving, along with this testing should not stop completely but it shouldn't be used to rank kids by intelligence. Its not an accurate representation of what they may know because some children and teens have a lot of trouble with taking tests. So tests should not count towards a child's grade. Have them do a project that will allow them to show and inform what criteria is needed. To assess teachers we will encourage in person assessments of the class in session as well as well as a class curriculum overview that shows how much help the kids had needed in any aspect and after the help how much improvement in the results of how much knowledge of what was taught was retained
8.How do you plan to ensure that students around the United States are college and career ready when they graduate from high school?
We plan to have smaller class sizes so students get the attention that they need, as well as exposing them to different learning techniques. Even though we will need to hire more teachers i believe it would be beneficial in the end for the students education. Also we plan to pay for the new teachers with the money from taxing the wealthy more and the money we used to cut down our debt by cutting off some economic programs.
9.How do you plan to make college more affordable for America’s high school graduates?
I will make college more affordable for high school graduates by increasing tax on the rich and using the money made back from cutting unnecessary economic programs. And i feel that doing this will encourage more and more high school graduates to attend college because it is worth it. The benefits of a college education outweigh the benefits of not attending college (which their aren't many).
10.Education has been called the great equalizer. Do you believe this statement rings true today in the United States?
No, because everyone has their own way of learning and not everyone learns the same things, especially in college when you get to pick what classes you want to learn about. Education may bring people together but i wouldn't consider it the great equalizer. Even those that do not attend school have the capability to learn, many that drop out in recent years have taught themselves how to program computers or other fields they may have been interested in.
11.Why are your plans for American education better than the plans of your opponents?
My plans for education are better for america than my opponent's plans because my plans don’t only eliminate standardized testing and the common core like everyone else, but we are focusing on improving the education system to make student lives better after schooling and college. We will make it more affordable for college and make sure that students can come straight out of college and have many job opportunities. We plan to have many different teaching techniques offered to students so they can learn the best way they possibly can(lecture, hands-on, etc.) Smaller class sizes for students to get the attention they need and more job openings for teachers.
12.Why should Americans trust you to improve American education?
American’s can trust me to improve the education system in America because i promise to turn our education around and i practice what i preach. I promise that electing me for president, i will make the future a better and brighter place for generations to come. I plan to change the education system to benefit students even after they graduate.
